A court in Munich, Germany, has sentenced a 25-year-old Afghan citizen to life in prison for a 2025 car attack that killed a woman and her two-year-old daughter and injured dozens of others.
The court found the man guilty of two counts of murder, 23 counts of attempted murder, and dozens of counts of causing bodily harm, and declared that the severity of the crime committed made the likelihood of his release in the future very low.
The attack took place during a workers’ march in Munich, where the suspect drove his car into the crowd.
The German prosecutor’s office said the motive for the attack was religious, but said there was no evidence that he was a member of extremist groups, including ISIS.
According to reports, this Afghan citizen had entered Germany in 2016 and was allowed to reside and work in the country despite his asylum application being rejected.
