Amazing facts about black holes
Black holes are considered one of the most mysterious cosmic phenomena that are capable of transforming space and time. Although these objects have been featured in science fiction for years, today, with the use of advanced telescopes and observatories, they have become a subject that can be studied in astronomy.
Scientists say that black holes do not emit light themselves, but the gas and dust around them become so hot that they create the brightest objects in the universe, called quasars. Researchers also detect the presence of black holes by studying the behavior of stars, X-rays and gravitational waves.
New findings show that some black holes rotate at speeds close to the speed of light and change the structure of space-time around them. Also, contrary to popular belief, not all black holes are destructive and active objects, and some of them behave relatively calmly.
Scientists emphasize that the massive eruptions caused by some black holes sometimes exceed the size of their host galaxy. The first recorded image of a black hole was also obtained using a network of telescopes around the world, creating a virtual telescope the size of Earth.
According to Stephen Hawking’s theory, black holes gradually lose their energy over time by emitting special radiation, a process that for large black holes takes billions and even trillions of times longer than the current age of the universe.
