World Health Organization :Deadly heatwave in Europe claims more than 1,300 lives

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, has announced that the extreme heat wave in Europe has so far killed more than 1,300 people and affected about 150 million people.

Warning about the rapid pace of warming in Europe and the consequences of climate change, he emphasized that heat stress has become a “silent killer” and that hundreds of people have died due to unprecedented temperatures.

Ghebreyesus also said that many homes, workplaces and educational centers in Europe were not designed to cope with such extreme temperatures, increasing the vulnerability of communities.

The World Health Organization has called for urgent measures to combat the consequences of climate change and protect citizens’ health from heat waves.
