US media report possibility of using blocked Iranian assets to pay for regional damages

American media have reported that US officials are considering using frozen Iranian assets to pay for damages caused by Iranian attacks in the Persian Gulf region.

According to these reports, which have not yet been officially confirmed, Scott Basnet has tasked a team to assess the extent of the damage caused to some countries in the Persian Gulf.

Meanwhile, reports add that the United States holds about $20 billion in frozen Iranian assets and there are discussions about how to use them.

On the other hand, Kazem Gharibabadi has said that Tehran has demanded the immediate release of some of these assets and has suggested that 50 percent of them be made available to Iran at the same time as any memorandum of understanding is signed.

This issue comes at a time when some analysts see it as similar to previous discussions about using frozen Russian assets to rebuild Ukraine.
