ASEAN and EU emphasize inclusive governance and human rights in Afghanistan

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the European Union, at their 25th ministerial meeting, emphasized the establishment of an inclusive government that respects the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all Afghan citizens, especially women, girls, and children.

The joint statement of the meeting raised concerns about the human rights situation and ongoing tensions in Afghanistan, and emphasized the need for restraint, de-escalation by all parties, and support for dialogue to ensure regional stability.

Participants also called for unhindered access to humanitarian aid and the provision of basic needs for all Afghans, including women and children.

The officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan have repeatedly called the current government comprehensive and asked other countries not to interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.
