Qalibaf: We have reached a conclusion on some issues of the negotiations, but we are still far from a final agreement
Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the speaker of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly, announced in a televised interview that we have reached a conclusion on some issues in the negotiations, and that we have not yet reached an agreement on other issues.
He added that we are still far from a final agreement and that on some issues we insist that these demands cannot be tolerated.
Emphasizing the Islamic Republic’s control over the Strait of Hormuz, Qalibaf said: “The Iranian people should know that the Strait of Hormuz is completely under the control of the Islamic Republic.”
Regarding the US attempt to lay mines in the region, he stated, “We dealt with this action decisively, considering it a violation of the ceasefire, and we went to the stage of conflict, but the enemy retreated.”
Qalibaf continued, “In Islamabad, I told the American delegation that if their minesweepers move even a little further from their location, we will definitely shoot them. They asked for 15 minutes to give the order to return, and they did so.”
The Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly emphasized that if there is any traffic in the Strait of Hormuz today, it will be under our complete control.
Regarding the announcement of the blockade by the United States, he said that this decision is clumsy and ignorant. It is impossible for others to pass through the Strait of Hormuz but we cannot.
Qalibaf warned that if the US does not lift the blockade, traffic in the Strait of Hormuz will definitely be restricted.
