Mohammad Yousuf Jahangir’s historic gold medal for Afghanistan in the Islamic Games
Mohammad Yousuf Jahangir, the national Muay Thai athlete of Afghanistan, won the gold medal in the 75-kilogram weight category at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games, bringing the country its first historic gold medal in the event.
Jahangir defeated his Turkish opponent in the final on Friday night after a hard-fought three rounds with a close score of 29-28.
He had also defeated Indonesian and Saudi competitors before the final.
This champion already has two Asian and world medals to his name.
Sayed Hamidullah Sadat, another Afghan representative, failed to win a medal despite a good performance.
Afghanistan has participated in more than seven disciplines in these games, which are being hosted by Saudi Arabia in Riyadh, and so far, Jahangir is the only medalist.
