Gas crisis in Pakistan: LPG price in the open market reaches more than double the official rate
Following the worsening shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Pakistan’s free market and problems at the shared borders with Iran, the price of this product has increased to more than double the official rate.
The Pakistan Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority has announced the official price of LPG at around Rs 294 per kilogram and the price of an 11.8-kilogram cylinder at Rs 3,470, while this gas is sold in the open market for up to Rs 630 per kilogram.
The head of the Pakistan Gas Distributors Association has announced a serious crisis due to border problems with Iran, saying that at least 70 percent of Pakistan’s liquefied gas needs were supplied from Iran.
