Russia-Iran Comprehensive Strategic Agreement Officially Implemented

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between the Russian Federation and Iran, which aims to comprehensively strengthen relations in line with the fundamental interests of the peoples of the two countries, has entered into force today, October 2.

The treaty, valid for 20 years, focuses on cooperation in the fields of defense, economy, energy, finance, culture and counterterrorism, and boosts bilateral trade as a response to Western sanctions, which increased by 15.5 percent to $3.77 billion in the first 10 months of 2024.

The Russian Foreign Ministry statement said: “This treaty reflects the strategic choice of the leaders of the two countries to comprehensively strengthen friendly and good-neighborly relations and ensures the fundamental interests of the Iranian and Russian nations.”

This agreement was signed on January 17, 2025, during Iranian President Masoud Pezzekian’s visit to Moscow and his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
