Imran Khan urges Pakistani chief of army staff to hold talks with Afghanistan
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, in a statement, expressed regret over the killing of civilians in the Tirah Valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and called on Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir to enter into dialogue with the Islamic Emirate to ensure peace and prevent further casualties.
Mr. Khan stated that military operations without regard for civilian lives, especially in tribal areas, would only lead to the spread of terrorism.
He criticized that Asim Munir’s warnings of forced deportation of Afghan refugees and Pakistani airstrikes on Afghan soil had weakened relations between the two countries and fueled tensions.
Imran Khan stressed that the four main parties – including the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan – the Pakistani government, the tribal people and the Afghan people – should negotiate with each other to establish lasting peace in the tribal areas.
“Resolving problems through dialogue is the only way to prevent the cycle of violence and establish stability in the region,” he said.
The statement comes as border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have escalated in recent months.
