According to news sources, diplomatic relations between Brazil and Israel have been reduced to a lower level after Brazil refused to approve the appointment of Gali Dagan, the former Israeli ambassador to Colombia, as the regime’s new ambassador to Brazil.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced that after Brazil failed to respond to Dagan’s request for confirmation, the request was withdrawn and relations between the two countries will now continue at a lower diplomatic level.
Israel also declared Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva “persona non grata” for his comments on the Gaza war.
Trump’s support for Netanyahu is the main obstacle to a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Lula da Silva had previously described the Israeli regime’s actions in the Gaza Strip as “genocide” in controversial statements, saying: “What is happening in Gaza is not a war; it is genocide; it is not a war between soldiers, but between a trained army against women and children.”
The remarks, made in February 2024, angered Israeli officials and led to the recall of the Brazilian ambassador to Tel Aviv for reprimand.
