Germany pledges €5.8 million in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan

The German government announced the allocation of a €5.8 million aid package for humanitarian support to the people of Afghanistan.

This assistance aims to provide food and maintain basic health services for more than 23 million people in need in the country, including 3.5 million children under five and more than one million pregnant women.

The massive return of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the country, the German Foreign Ministry said.

The aid package will be distributed through the World Food Programme (WFP), United Nations agencies and humanitarian NGOs, with a special focus on supporting returnees and vulnerable groups, especially women and children, in border areas.

German officials, emphasizing the country’s commitment to supporting the people of Afghanistan, called on the Islamic Emirate to provide conditions for fair access to this aid, lift restrictions imposed on women, and ensure that all those in need have access to vital aid.
