Assassination of Maulana Sanaullah, a senior member of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam in South Waziristan

Sanaullah, a senior member of the Fazl branch of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party, was killed in a targeted attack by unidentified gunmen in the Azam Warsak area of Barmal district in South Waziristan province on Sunday, August 11, 2025.

The incident took place near a mosque where Maulana Sanaullah was leading, according to a Pakistani police official who did not want to be named.

Maulana Sanaullah, a member of the Wazir tribe and a resident of the Warai Noor region, was the Imam of the Niaz Wali Jame Mosque in Laman Kot near Karabagh.

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party, led by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, is one of the leading political-religious parties in Pakistan, which has representation in the National Assembly and the provincial assemblies of Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, and no further details have been released about the identity of the attackers or the motives for the assassination.
