US discovers classified documents related to Kabul airport’s Blue Gate explosion

The US Department of War says that the special team investigating the 2021 explosion near the “Blue” gate of Kabul airport has discovered confidential and important documents that were not previously available to the investigation.

Sean Parnell, a senior adviser to the US Secretary of War, said the documents were found in locations that he said were hidden to avoid discovery.

He added that after an initial investigation, it became clear why the documents were hidden, but details of their content have not yet been released.

Parnell has emphasized that the investigation is proceeding without haste and that the review board will examine all evidence and individuals involved in the decision-making process.

The explosion on August 26, 2021, occurred during the withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan near the Blue Gate of Kabul International Airport, killing 13 American soldiers and about 170 Afghan civilians.
