UNAMA: 613 Afghan civilians killed in Pakistani army attacks in 2025; highest number in 15 years
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) announced in its new report that at least 613 Afghan civilians died as a result of Pakistani army attacks in 2025.
This is the highest number of Afghan civilian casualties in Pakistani attacks in the past 15 years since UNAMA began regular documentation in 2011.
In the last three months of 2025 alone (October to December), 70 civilians were killed and 478 others were injured; the peak of casualties occurred between October 10 and 17, when border tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan reached their peak.
The deadliest day was October 15. On this day, airstrikes and clashes in Spin Boldak, Kandahar, explosions in Kabul, and incidents in Khost and Paktika resulted in the deaths of 35 civilians and the injury of 422 others.
Even after a ceasefire was declared on the evening of October 15, attacks continued, including an attack on October 17 in the Arghun district of Paktika that killed 11 civilians.
UNAMA has emphasized that these attacks mainly targeted residential areas in Paktia, Kunar, Helmand, Kandahar, Khost and Paktika provinces, causing the most harm to civilians.
