Kabul, Dushanbe agree to strengthen border security, joint investigations
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate has issued a statement saying that in a telephone conversation between Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and Tajik Foreign Minister Sirajuddin Mehrdin, the two sides agreed to continue border interactions, expand security cooperation, and hold technical meetings of joint committees.
According to the Foreign Ministry statement, Mr. Mottaqi, referring to the atmosphere of trust created in recent months between the two countries, emphasized that the Islamic Emirate is ready to fully cooperate in ensuring border security and conducting joint investigations with Tajikistan.
He also once again condemned the killing of Chinese nationals on Tajik soil and said that some circles are trying to disrupt the improving relations between the two countries.
The Tajik Foreign Minister also said that Dushanbe wants positive interaction with the Afghan government and supports strengthening border coordination and joint cooperation between the two countries.
This agreement comes at a time when the security of shared borders and regional cooperation have become more important for both countries in recent months.
