The 10th Saffron Flower Festival opened with the aim of marketing this product
The 10th Saffron Flower Festival was inaugurated yesterday in Herat Province with the presence of officials and saffron growers in order to market and attract more attention to this valuable product, and will continue for three days.
Maulvi Sher Mohammad Hatami, spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, announced that the area under saffron cultivation in Herat has increased from 9,500 hectares last year to 12,000 hectares this year, and the production of this product has also increased significantly compared to the previous year.
He added that the Ministry of Agriculture has paved the way for the development of saffron cultivation by holding extensive training programs and distributing land to farmers.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture said that Afghanistan exported about 65 metric tons of saffron to global markets last year, and this year, with the creation of more facilities, a significant increase in exports is expected.
