Colombian senator shot during campaign speech

Reuters reported on Saturday (June 7) that Miguel Uribe, a 39-year-old senator and former presidential candidate from the right-wing Centro Democratico party, was targeted during an election rally in the Fontibón district of Bogota, with bullets hitting him in the head and back.

According to local media reports, Uribe was immediately taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.

Colombia’s defense minister confirmed that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting and that investigations are ongoing to identify other possible perpetrators.
