US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday morning that he had approved the Navy’s plan to build two new warships and intends to significantly increase the number of aircraft carriers.
In his speech at the White House, Trump claimed: “These two new warships will be the largest warships in the history of our country, and we will increase the number of aircraft carriers.”
Emphasizing the need to modernize the current fleet, he claimed that the new ships are 100 times more powerful than the Iowa-class fleet and will ensure American naval superiority.
“We’re starting with two new ships, then we’re going to eight new ships, and eventually we’re going to 25 new ships,” Trump added, according to Sputnik news agency.
The US President also announced that the world’s most advanced laser weapons will be installed on these ships and that the United States has the most powerful and undetectable submarines.
Trump went on to claim that drug trafficking has decreased by more than 90 percent because drug-carrying ships have been destroyed.
