Afghan Embassy in Japan to be suspended from end of January 2026

The Afghan Embassy in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, announced that it will suspend all its activities after January 31, 2026, until further notice.

The embassy’s official statement said that this decision was made after necessary consultations with the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will include all political, economic, cultural and consular activities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has not yet responded to the decision.

The move comes as Japan, like many countries, does not recognize the current Afghan government and maintains limited diplomatic relations with representatives of the previous term.
