Ebola outbreak in Congo becomes deadliest in country’s history

According to information from the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the new Ebola outbreak has so far claimed the lives of 2,325 people, surpassing the 2,299 victims in the 2018-2020 outbreak, making it the deadliest Ebola outbreak in the country’s history.

The number of confirmed cases has reached 4,945, with 101 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours alone.

This is the 17th Ebola outbreak in Congo and the largest in terms of the number of cases in the country’s history. The World Health Organization says only the Ebola outbreak in West Africa from 2014 to 2016 has had more fatalities, with 11,310 victims.
