The Wall Street Journal, citing its sources, reported that US President Donald Trump has told his top aides that he may withdraw from the war without reaching a nuclear deal with Iran.
However, the newspaper claimed that Tehran’s conditions for the full opening of the Strait of Hormuz, including the withdrawal of American forces from the region, the end of the naval blockade, the lifting of sanctions, the release of frozen assets, and the payment of billions of dollars in war reparations, have made the process of reaching an agreement more difficult.
The Wall Street Journal wrote that Iran is using its ability to disrupt traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and global oil flows as leverage, while rising gasoline prices in the United States – and the approaching midterm elections – have increased pressure on the Trump administration to end the conflict.
