Several senior American sources have told Axios that Donald Trump was considering launching a large-scale but short-term military operation against Iran, an operation aimed at increasing pressure on Tehran to change its position in negotiations.
At the same time, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a senior US Defense Department official, that these attacks were carried out within the framework of “coercive diplomacy” and aimed at forcing Iran to make concessions in the negotiation process.
Meanwhile, Iranian officials have repeatedly emphasized that the United States will not gain through negotiations the concessions it has not gained on the battlefield.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that it has launched new strikes against multiple targets in Iran.
CENTCOM claimed that these attacks were “defensive” in nature and that the intended targets included air defense systems, radars, and drone command and control centers in southern Iran.
The Hebrew network Kan also reported, citing Israeli military sources, that the regime is not directly involved in the current attacks against Iran.
Donald Trump has also claimed that Iranian officials have asked him to stop the attacks and that the bombings will end soon.
The US president has also claimed that he has had direct talks with Iranian officials and that the country’s military has fired 49 missiles, up to Mahouk, at targets in Iran.
