New research shows air pollution can impair human memory
The results of a new study show that air pollution from forest fires, fossil fuel power plants, artificial intelligence data centers, and vehicles can directly negatively affect human semantic memory.
According to researchers, long-term exposure to polluted air may have an effect on cognitive abilities similar to about 10 years of natural aging, affecting personal independence and quality of life.
Researchers have emphasized that semantic memory is essential for communicating, understanding content, and performing daily activities, and that air pollution can affect the aging process of the brain in addition to physical health.
