A US government official announced that the official repatriation ceremony for the bodies of four American soldiers killed during recent clashes with Iran will be held on Wednesday at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.
According to the official, the ceremony was scheduled to be held on Tuesday with Donald Trump in attendance, but the White House announced its postponement.
The Pentagon had previously announced that three American soldiers had been killed in recent attacks, including two in Jordan and one in northern Iraq; the remains of another soldier who had previously been reported missing were found in Jordan, bringing the number of bodies transferred to the United States to four.
Retired US Army General Mark Kimmitt also said in an interview with Al Jazeera that returning the bodies of the fallen soldiers to the US would be politically challenging for the country’s government, and that American public opinion is sensitive to the casualties of its own soldiers.
