Eilat Port Authority’s pressure to include this port in regional agreements
Reports indicate that the Eilat Port Authority has asked Israeli authorities to include the port in any regional agreement between the United States and Iran, after a sharp decline in activities due to the blockade of Yemen in the Red Sea.
According to media reports, the long halt in maritime traffic and the failure of alternative routes have forced the Port Authority to call for the lifting of the blockade on Yemen and the reopening of the maritime corridor to Eilat.
Meanwhile, using an alternative route through the port of Aqaba to transport goods is assessed as a temporary and costly solution and is not considered sustainable.
Reports also indicate that despite a relative decrease in attacks in the Red Sea, security concerns have caused international shipping companies to refrain from returning to Eilat.
Port officials have emphasized that the full restoration of activities requires political solutions at the regional and international levels.
