Transparency International 2025 Report: Global Corruption Is Rising, Even Established Democracies Are Involved

Transparency International, in its 2025 report released on Tuesday (February 11), announced that corruption is on the rise globally, with even countries with established democracies witnessing growth due to declining quality of leadership and oversight.

According to the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), countries where corruption has increased include the United States with a score of 64 out of 100, Canada with 75, New Zealand with 81, the United Kingdom with 70, France with 66, and Sweden with 80.

The report emphasizes that a higher score means a lower level of perceived corruption, and a lower score indicates more widespread corruption.

In the regional section, Afghanistan with a score of 16, Iran with 23, and Pakistan with 28 are at the bottom of the table, indicating the very high level of perceived corruption in these countries.

Transparency International warned that continuing this trend could undermine public trust in institutions, disrupt economic growth, and exacerbate social inequalities.
