Joint British and French airstrikes target ISIS underground facilities in Palmyra, Syria
The British Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday morning (3th of January)that the country’s Royal Air Force fighters, in cooperation with French aircraft, carried out a joint air strike on Saturday evening against an underground facility affiliated with the ISIS terrorist group near the city of Palmyra in central Syria.
The operation targeted an underground weapons and explosives depot that, based on intelligence assessments, was being used by ISIS remnants.
In this attack, British Typhoon fighters, supported by Voyager refueling aircraft and escorted by French aircraft, dropped Paveway IV guided bombs on multiple entrances to the facility’s tunnels.
The attack comes amid reports of increased ISIS activity in central Syria, especially around Palmyra, in recent months.
