The foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries discussed in a virtual meeting the latest developments in the region and ways to strengthen cooperation to maintain security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a Reuters report, Oman, with the support of Gulf Cooperation Council countries, has presented a plan to Iran for managing the Strait of Hormuz; the aim of this plan is to reduce tensions and ensure the continuation of ship traffic in one of the world’s most important waterways.
The proposal includes establishing a mechanism for joint management of the Strait of Hormuz and receiving voluntary financial contributions from transiting ships; the sources said these payments would not be mandatory and would be used to cover the costs of maritime services, environmental protection, and search and rescue operations.
