Trump and Mamdani’s historic and unexpected meeting at the White House went from profanity to cooperation

In a rare and unexpected event, US President Donald Trump met for the first time with newly elected New York Mayor Zahran Mamdani in the Oval Office of the White House on Friday, November 21, 2025.

The meeting, which was expected to lead to a verbal clash due to strong political differences, ended on a warm and cordial note, with both sides emphasizing cooperation in solving common problems.

Trump, who had previously called Mamdani a “crazy communist and an existential threat” and even threatened to cut off New York’s federal funding, showed a lenient attitude during this meeting.

He described Mamdani as a “logical person” and said: “I will work for his success.”

On the other hand, Mamdani, a 34-year-old democratic socialist who had previously called Trump a “fascist” and a “dictator,” now focused on practical issues such as the housing crisis, rising food prices, and the cost of living, saying, “We can work beyond ideologies for New Yorkers,” and calling the meeting “constructive and positive.”
