Saudi Arabia, Pakistan sign strategic defense agreement

Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed a strategic defense agreement, according to which any aggression against one of the two countries will be considered an aggression against both.

The agreement, known as the Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement, was signed in Riyadh on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) and Pakistani media, the agreement emphasizes strengthening defense cooperation between the two countries and aims to develop defense aspects, increase joint deterrence against any aggression, and achieve security and peace in the region and the world.

The agreement is based on the eight-decade-long historical partnership between the two countries based on Islamic brotherhood, solidarity, and shared strategic interests.

The signing took place while Prime Minister Sharif was on an official visit to Saudi Arabia and met with Crown Prince bin Salman at Yamamah Palace.
