Responding to the declaration of famine in Gaza, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for urgent action to stop this humanitarian disaster.
According to a UN spokesperson, “Daniel Gross Guterres described the situation as a man-made disaster and a moral failure of humanity.”
Guterres stressed that famine is not just a lack of food, but a deliberate collapse of human survival systems; we cannot allow this situation to continue with impunity. The time to act is now.
He called for an immediate ceasefire, the unconditional release of all hostages, and full and unrestricted access to humanitarian aid.
