Khalil al-Hayyah, head of Hamas’ political bureau, said in an interview with Al-Arabi Network that the most important challenge facing the Palestinians is stopping the attacks and implementing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza; he called for implementing the agreed roadmap and forcing Israel to adhere to its commitments.
Al-Hayya called Israel the “axis of instability” in the region and said that Hamas had heard words of understanding and support for the Palestinian issue in public and private meetings, but now, he said, practical and tangible measures are needed.
The head of Hamas’ political bureau also called for the international community to take greater responsibility towards the Palestinians and said that humanitarian aid to Gaza should be provided without hindrance.
Regarding Palestinian political developments, Al-Hayya also said that Hamas is ready to talk with Mahmoud Abbas to create a national program and strengthen unity among Palestinians; he also announced Hamas’s readiness to mediate between the conflicting parties in Yemen.
These statements come at a time when Al-Hayya has emphasized the realization of Palestinian political rights and the formation of a Palestinian state as a way to create stability in the region.
