Deadly explosion at Karachi fireworks warehouse kills 4, injures over 30
At least four people were killed and more than 30 wounded in a fireworks warehouse in the Sadr area near Mohammad Ali Jinnah Road in Karachi on Thursday evening, Pakistani media reported, citing police.
According to local and international news agencies, the initial explosion caused a massive fire in the warehouse and several nearby shops, followed by several other small explosions that caused panic among residents of the area.
Aqib Khan, an eyewitness, told the media: “I thought several bombs had exploded and the intensity of the explosion was so great that the windows of nearby shops were shattered and some passersby were injured by flying glass fragments.”
At least 34 people were taken to hospital and four of the injured died last night, Karachi police chief Somayeh Tariq said.
Images released by local networks show thick smoke rising from a multi-story building and firefighters trying to contain the fire.
