On Friday 25th of July 2025 US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in a meeting with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar in Washington, emphasized Pakistan’s key role in maintaining stability in South Asia.
This meeting, the first official face-to-face dialogue between senior officials of the two countries in recent years, is considered a step towards reviving structured relations.
Rubio announced on social media that he had spoken with Dar about expanding bilateral trade, cooperation in the strategic minerals sector, and combating terrorism, and appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for regional stability.
Ishaq Dar also called for broad and sustainable relations and introduced Pakistan as a suitable destination for American investment in agricultural technology and minerals.
The two sides also discussed regional security, developments in Afghanistan, and cooperation in the arrest of one of the planners of the 2021 attack on Kabul airport, which is a sign of rebuilding mutual trust.
