Floods in Australia kill five

Australian authorities have announced the start of the process of clearing flood-affected areas in the southeast of the country.

Five people died and more than ten thousand houses were destroyed or damaged as a result of these floods.

Reuters reported yesterday, Saturday, May 24, that according to Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, the relief and cleanup process has begun in the state of New South Wales and governments at various levels are working together to help those affected.

According to aid officials, more than ten thousand residential homes have been destroyed or seriously damaged by floods caused by continuous and heavy rainfall.

The latest victim was an 80-year-old man whose body was found in a submerged house, police said.

Officials say the floods are caused by climate change, which has exposed Australia to severe natural disasters in recent years, including droughts, widespread fires and now persistent flooding.
