International Day for the Eradication of Poverty: More than 2.8 billion people face inadequate housing conditions
Today, October 17, is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. This year, the day is being celebrated with the slogan “Secure Housing for All,” a slogan that emphasizes the importance of access to safe and adequate housing and the protection of human rights and human dignity.
The United Nations says that more than 2.8 billion people worldwide currently face inadequate housing conditions, with poor people suffering the most from this situation.
This organization emphasizes that eradicating poverty is closely linked to protecting human rights, preserving human dignity, and securing peace.
This day is being celebrated as Jan Egeland, Secretary-General of the Norwegian Refugee Council, recently warned that nearly a third of Afghanistan’s population will face hunger in the coming winter.
