Tass: Russia-Afghanistan trade doubles in six months

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special representative for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov said the volume of trade between Russia and Afghanistan had doubled in the first six months of this year, a trend he said indicated a stable growth in economic relations between the two countries.

Kabulov made the remarks at the Central Asia-Afghanistan Security Forum in Moscow on Friday, October 16, attended by representatives of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Referring to the low overall volume of trade between the two countries, he said that considering the conditions in Afghanistan after two decades of US and NATO military presence, this increase is of considerable importance.

Kabulov stressed that it is important to maintain the gradual and stable trend of trade growth between the two countries and Moscow will try to continue this trend; He also said that Russia-Afghanistan relations are expanding on the basis of constructive interaction and mutual interests.
