US lawmaker calls for restrictions on research collaborations with 120 Chinese institutions
John Molnar, chairman of the US House of Representatives Special Committee on China, has called on the US Department of War to cut Pentagon research funding for 58 Chinese universities and 62 technology laboratories and add these institutions to the research cooperation blacklist.
Molnar claims that these universities and research centers are connected to China’s military and security sectors, and their scientific collaborations with American institutions could pave the way for the transfer of sensitive technologies.
This request comes as concerns continue about scientific and technological cooperation between the United States and China, especially in areas with military applications.
