India accused Pakistan at the meeting of the Sixth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly of trying to hide state support for terrorism by announcing a reward for the arrest of Masood Azhar, the leader of Jaish-e-Mohammed. These statements were made by Raghu Puri, India’s first representative to the United Nations.
Puri said that combating terrorism is not possible by issuing a declaration alone, and that its perpetrators, organizers, funders, and supporters must be held accountable; he also said that terrorist groups have enjoyed support and sanctuary on Pakistani soil.
Referring to Pakistan’s 7 million rupees reward for information about Masood Azhar, he said that if the media has been able to contact him, the Pakistani government should also be aware of his whereabouts; Masood Azhar is also on the UN Security Council’s sanctions list related to al-Qaeda.
