Reuters: Two-thirds of Republican candidates distance themselves from Trump in close congressional races

A Reuters survey shows that Republican candidates in two-thirds of the close races for the US House of Representatives and Senate have distanced themselves from Donald Trump on some policies or have tried to downplay their relationship with the US president.

Based on this report, Republican candidates have distanced themselves from Trump in some way in 41 of the 62 close congressional races ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.

Reuters has seen this trend as a sign of Republican candidates’ efforts to reduce their electoral dependence on Trump, as his declining popularity could jeopardize Republicans’ position in Congress.
