Landslides and severe storms in China; 16 people buried under debris and 8 killed
Chinese state media have reported that 16 people are still trapped under the rubble following a landslide in Gansu Province. Of the 33 people trapped, 17 have been rescued so far, and the search operation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, severe storms in Hubei province have killed eight people, left one missing, and injured at least 275 others.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered the mobilization of all resources to rescue the injured. Meteorological officials have also announced that wind speeds have reached 149 kilometers per hour in some areas.
China’s National Meteorological Center has warned of continued heavy rainfall, the risk of flooding, landslides, and tornadoes, and announced that super typhoon “Bawei” is also moving towards Taiwan at speeds of up to 290 kilometers per hour
