Deadly gun attack in Haiti kills 47, injures dozens

At least 47 people have been killed and 22 others wounded in a nighttime attack by armed groups in the Kanskov area overlooking the Haitian capital.

The United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti said the death toll could change. The attack took place in an area that it controls due to its strategic location on the access routes to Port-au-Prince.

According to reports, the Konsk region has faced about a dozen attacks by armed groups since last year, and thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes as a result of this violence.

Powerful armed groups have gained widespread influence in Haiti’s capital and surrounding areas in recent years, while international efforts to strengthen the country’s police force continue.

Local residents criticized the failure of security forces to prevent the attack and demanded a change in the police chief of the area, saying the victims were only a few minutes away from the police station.

The Haitian government called the incident a “heinous attack.”

The Prime Minister’s Office has also emphasized that the government’s authority will be restored without delay.

According to UN statistics, attacks by armed groups in Konskoff in early 2025 resulted in more than 260 deaths, the destruction or burning of more than 200 homes, and the displacement of about 3,000 people.
