Approval of fines of up to 10,000 euros and deportation for illegal residence of foreign nationals in Iran
During the review of the plan to combat foreign influence, members of the Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly have agreed to punish the illegal entry or residence of foreign nationals; according to this resolution, violators may face deportation and a fine of up to 10,000 euros in addition to registering biometric information if they do not have a valid excuse.
The amount of the fine is determined by the individual’s financial capacity and at the discretion of the judicial authority; actions against national security, disruption of public order, and fundamental violations of residency and visa conditions will also be subject to these penalties.
This decision could affect the residency status of Afghan refugees in Iran, especially those without valid documents, and raise concerns about the future of refugee families
