Lagarde: I may step down early as ECB president

European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde has said she does not rule out the possibility of stepping down a few months before the end of her term, but stressed that she has not yet made a final decision on the matter.

Lagarde’s eight-year term as president runs until October 2027, and she has said she will remain at the European Central Bank in 2027.

Lagarde has also ruled out running for the French presidency in 2027, saying it would be a “very bad idea.”
