Conference ends with NPT ‘regret’ without final agreement

The 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) ended without reaching consensus on a final document due to deep political differences and divisions among the 191 member states.

Reports indicate that this is the third consecutive time that the Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference has failed to reach a final conclusion due to disagreements and obstruction.

In the Iranian statement read at the end of the conference, the United States, Britain, France, and the “nuclear umbrella” countries were accused of violating their commitments on nuclear disarmament.

The statement also states that Western countries are supporting the Israeli regime instead of pressuring it to join the Non-Proliferation Treaty, and that the attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities are an example of the dual policies of the West, led by the United States.

The 11th session of this conference began on April 27 with the participation of 191 member states at the United Nations headquarters.
