More than 152,000 undocumented migrants arrested in Türkiye, Afghans top the list

The Turkish Migration Agency announced that more than 152,000 migrants were detained in various operations across the country last year for not having legal residence documents.

Afghan nationals, with more than 42,000 arrests, constitute the largest group among detained foreign nationals and are at the top of this list.

After Afghan citizens, the largest number of detainees were from Syria, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Iran, respectively.

These statistics are being released at a time when Turkey remains one of the main destinations for migrants from neighboring countries and the region, and the country’s authorities are implementing strict measures to control illegal immigration.
