China breaks world’s record for most powerful offshore turbine by launching 26-megawatt wind turbine

China’s Dongfeng Electric Company has installed and commissioned a 26-megawatt offshore wind turbine, taking the title of the world’s most powerful wind turbine from Siemens Gamesa’s 21.5-megawatt turbine in Denmark.

This gigantic turbine, with a blade diameter of more than 310 meters and a hub height of 185 meters, is considered the largest wind turbine in the world in terms of capacity and size.

This turbine is designed for offshore areas with wind speeds of 8 meters per second and above and is capable of generating 100 gigawatt hours of electricity annually with an average wind speed of 10 meters per second.

This amount of energy can meet the annual electricity needs of 55,000 homes.

This achievement places China at the forefront of offshore renewable energy technology and is an important step towards reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
