Ismail Beqaei, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, has announced that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Commander of the Pakistani Defense Forces, will travel to Tehran on Monday at the head of an official delegation.
According to Baqai, the purpose of this visit is to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Iran and Pakistan and to continue Islamabad’s efforts to support regional peace and security. Asim Munir is scheduled to meet and discuss with senior Iranian officials during this visit.
The trip comes as tensions between Iran and the United States have increased and Washington has announced new sanctions against Tehran; American officials have described these sanctions as the most severe economic measures against Iran.
Pakistan has made efforts to mediate between Iran and the United States in recent months; Islamabad has previously hosted direct talks between the two sides and played a role in the process of reducing tensions and creating a framework for ending the conflict.
Despite the ongoing differences between Tehran and Washington, Pakistani officials have emphasized that the country will continue its diplomatic efforts to ensure regional stability and security.
