According to reports, 15 people, including 12 soldiers, two policemen and a former forest department employee, were killed after armed men attacked a security checkpoint in the Tank district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.
The Pakistani military’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the attack occurred on the night of July 23-24 when gunmen tried to enter the checkpoint but were stopped by the forces stationed there.
According to the ISPR press release, the attackers were pursued by security forces as they retreated, resulting in the deaths of 12 of them. The organization added that the attackers then rammed a vehicle packed with explosives into the perimeter wall of the outpost, causing severe damage to the outpost building and facilities.
Al Jazeera reported that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack and said that four attackers were involved in the operation.
